Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 October 2026
This policy explains what The Proving Ground collects about you, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- When you sign up for The Proving Ground: your email address and, if you give it, your first name.
- When you become a member: your name, email address and billing details. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- When you use the site: basic technical information such as your browser, your device and the pages you visit, collected through cookies and similar tools. This includes tools from advertising platforms that tell us which ads bring readers to us.
- When you email us: whatever you choose to include.
How we use it
- To send the letters and alerts you signed up for.
- To run your membership, billing and account.
- To answer your questions.
- To understand which pages and ads work, so we can improve them.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that help us run the service, and only what each one needs: Kit (our email service), Outseta (membership, billing and member emails), Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (website hosting) and the advertising and analytics platforms that measure our ads. Our service providers may use your information only to provide their services to us. Advertising platforms handle the data they collect under their own privacy policies.
We don’t sell your personal information. From time to time we may tell you about products from other companies that we think are worth your attention, but we don’t pass your details to them. If you respond to one, you deal with that company directly.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Your choices
- Every email we send has an unsubscribe link.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing support@provinggroundletter.com. We’ll do it unless the law requires us to keep something, such as billing records.
- Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies.
How long we keep it
For as long as you’re a subscriber or member, and afterwards only as long as we need it for legal, tax or accounting reasons.
Security
We use established providers and limit access to your information to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect what you share with us.
Children
The service is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here. If a change is material, we’ll also tell members by email.
